Experience

Photography

The light here is patient. So are we.

Bhutan rewards photographers who rise early. Dawn mist on the Punakha rivers, prayer flags against a black ridge at Dochula, the Tiger's Nest catching first light before the trail opens. We build itineraries around the hours when the valleys glow, not around the lunch schedule.

Your guide knows which dzong courtyards face the morning and which chortens are best at dusk, and will ask on your behalf before you photograph a person, a dancer or a monk. Inside temples and shrine rooms photography is forbidden, and we respect that without exception.

For festival journeys we can arrange a Bhutanese photographer to join you, someone who knows when the thongdrel will be unfurled and where to stand. Bring more memory cards than you think you need, and a lens hood for the high-altitude sun.
